LIFEPOPWAT

Innovative technology based on constructed wetlands for treatment of pesticide-contaminated waters

Old industrial sites in the Czech Republic and Poland, known as HCH mega sites, still leak dangerous pesticide pollution into the environment. These remote areas are hard to clean up with traditional methods, which are often costly and complex.

A new, affordable, and nature-based solution was needed to treat this pollution effectively.

The LIFEPOPWAT project delivered just that. It introduced ‘Wetland+’ technology—combining constructed wetlands with reactive zones—to clean contaminated water naturally. This low-cost solution works even in hard-to-reach areas. By proving its impact and encouraging cross-border cooperation, the project sets an example for sustainable pollution clean-up across Europe.
