LIFE METRO ADAPT

LIFE Metro Adapt has successfully mainstreamed climate adaptation measures in Milan, Italy’s second-largest city. A first output was a study on its vulnerability to heat island effects. The team worked to develop adaptation strategies for local authorities to apply cost-effectively. Water management and nature-based solutions were at the heart of their approach. The project drafted simple guidelines for implementing sustainable drainage systems to prevent flood risk in urban areas. They also created an international network to share best practices with other municipalities.
