The winning project will be rewarded during the LIFE Awards ceremony on 16 May 2019, as part of the EU Green Week 2019, Europe’s biggest environmental event.
The LIFE SMART Hospital project improved energy performance and reduced greenhouse gas emissions in the Hospital Universitario Rio Hortega in Valladolid (Spain). The project showed how to make a hospital more resilient to climate change by installing water-saving technologies and revamping the sorting, handling and tracing of medical waste. Benefits include 17% less greenhouse gas emissions, 30% less water consumed and 43% less waste going to landfill.
